Wonderful Irish Food Trail Inspiration
We were very excited recently when we were invited to lead a new project related to one of our favourite topics – Irish Food and local produce!
The starting point for this project was to conduct some desk and benchmarking research in advance. This involved learning in detail about some of the wonderful food tourism product that is available across our beautiful island, in particular food trails. Although desk based, this research has really whetted our appetite for travel in the coming months when we hope summer will allow us to pay a visit to all these tempting places and spaces. So you can get ahead with your planning we thought it would be good to share some of our foodie discoveries with you
The Burren Food Trail
The Burren Food Trail stood out as a really well-developed trail guaranteed to surprise and delight us when we get back into roving mode! We were not surprised to learn that they won the European destination of Excellence awards.
Delicious Dublin Food Tours
Another trail that stood out for us was Delicious Dublin Food Tours, operated by Ketty Quigley who is known for her expertise in Dublin’s food scene and commitment to local suppliers and food tourism. Food and drink businesses featured on this food trail are hand picked for their quality, their story and relevance to the Irish food scene.
Taste of Sligo Foodie Tour
We also love the idea of the Taste of Sligo Foodie Tour . This tour is operated by Sligo restaurateur, Anthony Gray. The tour takes you into the heart of Sligo town, to experience culinary delights from Sligo’s award-winning chefs with the backdrop of Sligo’s rich cultural and architectural heritage. The tour gives the opportunity to taste locally inspired dishes, including desserts, local craft beers and food and ingredient produced in the West of Ireland. When we can gather again this activity really is about getting together and sharing food, drink, experiences and stories.
If restrictions allow, we might see you on one of these trails in Summer 2021. In the meantime happy planning!
